Ribbon Christmas Tree

A beautiful little decoration

for the Christmas tree

Approx. finished size 7cm x 7cm

What will you need?

  • 1mtr of 7mm wide ribbon
  • 5mm beads (about 14)
  • Co-ordinating sewing thread
  • Needle, scissors, ruler

  • Cut a piece of thread at least 30cm long
  • Thread it onto a needle and knot the two ends together so it is double thickness
  • Take the ribbon and fold the end over twice and do a couple of stitches to secure it
  • Finish with the folded ribbon at the top and thread coming out of the bottom and the excess ribbon on the right hand side

  • Thread a bead on
  • Then loop about 1.5cm of ribbon over the folded piece and push the needle up through the ribbon

  • The excess ribbon is now on the left, take it out about 4cm and loop it back over the centre
  • Push the needle up through it

  • Add a bead
  • Then take the ribbon out about 4cm to the right and loop it back to the centre
  • Push the needle up through it
  • Add another bead
  • Then take the ribbon out about 3cm to the left and loop it back to the centre
  • Add a bead
  • And repeat on the right side
  • Add another bead

  • Repeat again, gradually decreasing the size of the loops as you go, forming a tree shape
  • When you get to the top, fold the end over a couple of times (you will need to cut off any excess ribbon)
  • Push the needle up through the folds and add the last bead

  • Then take your thread over the bead and push the needle back through the ribbon
  • And then back up through the bead again, finishing with the needle and thread coming out of the top
  • Keep a loop of thread at the top for hanging and push the needle back through the bead and ribbon

  • Do a couple of stitches to secure it and stop the hanging loop pulling through
  • Then push the needle back down through the other beads a little way and cut off the excess thread
  • Now you're finished

You can obviously use any colour of ribbon and beads or any width of ribbon. Just remember that the wider the ribbon the longer it needs to be.

The diameter of the beads needs to be close to the width of the ribbon.
