Mini Christmas Star - Cream

A beautiful little decoration for the

Christmas tree

Approx. finished size 7cm x 16cm (3" x 6")

including ribbon loop

What will you need?

  • Two different fabrics
  • Diamond shape template - we used a 2.5cm (1") template
  • Thin card or thick paper for the diamond pieces
  • 4mm gold pearl beads CF01 35402
  • 6mm x 9mm gold pearl droplet bead CF01 35902
  • 3mm wide ribbon (approx. 15cm)
  • Toy filling
  • Sewing thread
  • Needle, scissors, etc

  • Cut 12 diamond shapes out of each fabric using the outside edge of your template
  • Cut 12 diamond shapes out of paper or card using the inside edge of your template

If you don't have this type of plastic template you can make your own. All you need is a diamond shape for your paper pieces, then cut your fabric pieces slightly larger so you have a seam allowance.

  • Fold one of the fabric diamonds over one of the paper diamonds and tack in place

  • Repeat this for the other diamonds.
  • Six diamonds will make one side of your star

  • Take two different diamonds and stitch them together

  • Then add a third one, remembering to alternate the designs of the fabric

  • Stitch the other 3 together in the same way

  • Then stitch the two halves together to make one side of your star
  • Repeat for the other side

  • Place both stars right side together and stitch around the edge, leaving a gap for turning
  • Cut your tacking stitches and remove all the paper pieces. You may need to trim some of the excess fabric away.
  • Turn right side out

  • Now stuff the star with toy filling
  • Take the 3mm wide ribbon and fold it to make a loop
  • Tuck it into the seam (at a point) as you stitch up the gap
  • You can now add the 4mm gold pearl beads to 5 points of the star
  • Where the ribbon loop is, stitch a bead on both sides
  • And add a bead in the centre of each side

  • When you get to the bottom point, bring your needle out of the point and thread 2 4mm pearls onto it
  • followed by a droplet bead
  • Then another 4mm pearl
  • Then bring your needle back through the droplet bead and the 2 pearl beads and secure

Your star is now finished

and ready for hanging.
